Russian actor and former ILAC student Alexei Serebryakov’s movie Leviathan has successful screenings at TIFF Bell Lightbox

We are thrilled to congratulate former ILAC student Alexei Serebryakov on the success of his recently-released film, Leviathan. The picture received four Golden Eagle awards in Russia and a Golden Globe award for Best Foreign Language film and it is nominated for an Academy award. ILAC gave students the opportunity to participate and win tickets to watch it with a friend during Valentine’s week!

Alexei Serebryakov – Russian film and theatre actor, People’s Artist of Russia, known for his roles in Gangster Petersburg, Inhabited island, The 9th Company, Gloss and many others – immigrated with his family to Canada more than two years ago.

He attended classes at ILAC to improve his English communication skills. After only one month, he went from not knowing any English to being able to talk for hours about different topics, says his former ILAC teacher Jed Dixon. One of his techniques for improving his English speaking was to stop and correct himself every time he mispronounced a word.

Meanwhile, he continued to pursue his acting career. His latest project Leviathan was a TIFF Official Selection in 2014 and is now playing at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

In this Academy Award-nominated drama, Serebryakov plays the role of Kolya, a man who fights a corrupt government to protect his family home.

ILAC gave students the opportunity to participate in a contest and win a pair of tickets to see the film at TIFF Bell Lightbox on Thursday, February 12th.

Two (2) pairs of tickets were given away. The winners, Margarita Rost and Margarita Baranovskaya, were announced on ILAC’s Facebook page and contacted via Facebook.
