It’s a combination of 1 semester (16 weeks) of the most intensive English program at ILAC + 1 semester at a Canadian college or university.
Participating GAP YEAR institutions in Vancouver:
• Douglas college
• Thompson Rivers University (TRU)
• LaSalle: 11 weeks certificate program
Participating GAP YEAR institutions in Toronto:
• Niagara College
• KPU will require level 14 + (ILAC online test) or have IELTS 5.5 + to register for the program. Before starting university, you will be
required to complete ILAC vel 14 or PW 3.1.
• La Salle will require 9+ (ILAC online test) to register for GAP Year. To start La Salle program, you will require to complete ILAC level 12.
• Douglas will require level 10+(ILAC online test) to start ILAC – Douglas GAP YEAR program, and student will require to complete ILAC level 14 in order to enroll and take 3 courses at Douglas (1 English + 2 courses of your choice from the list). If you complete ILAC level 16, then you can enroll and select 3 courses from the list at Douglas.
• TRU will require level 10+ (ILAC online test) to start ILAC – TRU GAP YEAR program, and student will require to complete ILAC level
14 in order to enroll and take 4 courses at TRU.
• Niagara College will require ILAC level 10 + (ILAC online test) to start ILAC – Niagara GAP YEAR program, student will require to complete ILAC level 13 in order to enroll and select 6 college courses.
You will need to study extra weeks at ILAC. Please consult with an ILAC Pathway Placement Specialist about how many additional weeks will be
required.
No. It is a special program ILAC has with the GAP Year partner university and completing 16 weeks of study at ILAC is one of the requirements
for the program.
Yes, you need to submit the application and supporting documents to the university and meet the entry requirements.
Once you arrive in Vancouver, you will be invited for an orientation. ILAC Pathway Placement Specialist will explain how the application process
works for the University you’ve chosen.
You need to prepare your high school graduation certificate and transcripts. (Original Language & Notarized English translation).
Yes, you will learn more about university or college options at the orientation and you can decide which university or college to apply to before
submitting your application.
Most students choose to stay with Homestay program. Residence option is also available, it’s located in Vancouver or Toronto downtown.
TRU is in Kamloops, 5 -hour drive from Vancouver.
Douglas College is in New Westminster, 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver by sky train.
LaSalle campus is conveniently located at a major Skytrain station on Renfrew Street, about 20 minutes from downtown by public transportation.
Niagara College is located 1.5-hour drive from Toronto downtown.
You will take 3 full time academic courses (total 9 credits) at Douglas.
You will take 4 full time academic courses (total 12 credits) at TRU.
LaSalle offers programs in the area of design, fashion, media arts and culinary. You will study 3 or 4 courses (total in 12 credits).
Niagara college GAP YEAR semester offers business, hospitality and general arts streams and allows students to take up to 6 college courses.
High school graduates can select 1st year courses.

You will be registering for courses yourself. Usually there are several time options for each course, so you can chooses classes early or later in
the morning, as well as in the afternoon.
Sample schedule:
Management, 3 credits; Tuesday and Friday – 10:00 am – 11:20 am
Quantitative Methods, 3 credits; Tuesday and Friday – 8:30 am – 9:50 am
Organizational Behavior, 3 credits; Thursday – 4:00 pm – 6:50 pm
La Salle schedule depends on the program, for the details on each program, please check with your Placement specialist.
University registration happens 3-4 months prior your university/college start date. ILAC Pathway Specialist will explain the procedure and help
you to register for courses if needed.
There is no university test required. However, some courses may require a higher level of math or English, so if you want to take those,
additional testing might be necessary.
Textbooks are an additional cost and it depends on the courses you take. There might be a lab fee which is posted at the later date and should
be paid by the student.
College and university will provide a transcript showing the grades for the courses you took. No certificate will be awarded from university or
college; however, you will receive GAP YEAR program certificate from ILAC.
La Salle will issue a certificate upon completing La Salle 11-week certificate program.
Yes, you can continue to study at the university and apply the credits received during GAP YEAR semester.
Additional documents might be required to enroll in the full-time program.
