Victoria Day Special: Where to go on Victoria Day in Vancouver

Another long weekend is coming up and you have plenty of time to enjoy Victoria Day* with your friends.

For most of us it is the time to celebrate nice weather, the coming summer and the end of a long and cold winter. In this Blog post we feature some activities suited to your interests or, in other words, “your cup of tea”.

1. Smell the Flowers at Queen Elizabeth Park

Queen Elizabeth Park
There are no celebrations without flowers! Visit Queen Elizabeth Park and enjoy its pathways, bridges and waterfalls, surrounded by flowers, plants and trees. The park is located in the center of Vancouver and is the highest point in the city. Beautiful views of the city and the mountains surrounded by the North Shore will leave you speechless.

2. Enjoy Shopping in Asian Markets.

Richmond Night Market
The Richmond Night Market and The International Summer Night Market will be open on the long weekend. For a reasonable price, you can get great food, clothes, accessories and more.

3. Celebrate Victoria Day at Burnaby Village Museum

And they're off!
Burnaby Village Museum is the right place for those who really want to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. The village site and the costumed townsfolk will transport you to the 1920s. On Victoria Day, you can find special entertainment including dancers, live bands and a parade! After the parade, greet Queen Victoria and her ladies-in-waiting during the Queen’s Levee and enjoy a birthday cupcake.

4. Play Beach Volleyball at Kitsilano Beach.

Kitsilano (“Kits”) Beach is one of the most popular Vancouver beaches, known for its spectacular views of English Bay and downtown. This clean sand beach is also loved by volleyball players from all over the city and even other countries. So if you want enjoy fun outdoor activities, get a sun tan and meet new friends, this place is waiting for you!

5. Spend Your Day at May Day Fort Langley

May Day Fort Langley
This famous May Day Parade has been a symbol of Victoria Day in Vancouver for over 90 years. The parade will form on Church street at 11AM, marching through several streets full of cheering crowds, and will head to its final destination, Langley Community Park. In the park, you can also enjoy maypole** dancing, rides, mini golf and, of course, delicious food! Don’t miss the famous BBQ Chicken!

6. Have a Drink at the Patio in The Olympic Village

Giant Bird Posing
If you’re tired after a long day of intense activities and walking, this place might be the best choice to drop by and rest your sore feet. If you want to quench your thirst with ice cold craft beer, you should check in at Tap & Barrel. From their patio, you can enjoy unobstructed views of False Creek, Science World, BC Place and Rogers Arena. It is undoubtedly the right place to finish your perfect Victoria Day Weekend!

* Canada was under British rule for more than 100 years but celebrating Queen Victoria’s birthday became a Canadian tradition, while only a few parts of England set this date as an official holiday.

** A maypole is a tall wooden pole erected as a part of various European folk festivals, around which a maypole dance often takes place.
