Taiwan’s Ambassador R. C. Wu and Director of Consular Affairs Nicolas Hong visited ILAC on August 15, 2014 to speak about the need to promote Canada as an education destination for Taiwanese students.
“Although Taiwan and Canada are far from each other geographically, we share the same values of democracy and rule of law,” said Mr. Hong. “As our mission is to promote economical, cultural and educational exchanges between our two countries, we are happy to see our young students choose Canada as their learning destination. Likewise, we welcome Canadian students to visit Taiwan through our Youth Mobility Program, which allows them to study and work there for one year.”
It was a great opportunity for ILAC’s students from Taiwan to speak personally with the Ambassador who expressed his understanding about the challenges they might face.
“I liked meeting with Taiwan’s Ambassador because he is the first official Taiwanese representative I have met, and he cares about the students here,” said ILAC student Nai-Yuan Kang. “Now we know that, in addition to ILAC, there is another organization that can help us with any problems. We feel more confident and secure. Thank you very much!”
During the meeting with the students Mr. Hong expressed willingness to help ILAC students with any difficulties they might run into. “For Taiwanese students currently studying at your esteemed school, we count on your kind efforts to assist them in their endeavours. Should they encounter any difficulties, please let us know so we might render help in due time.”
In conclusion, Mr. Hong stated: “It was a great pleasure for us to visit your school and meet with Principal Jonathan Kolber and the staff. We were very impressed by all that ILAC offers for students of different nationalities to improve their English. Your proficiency, athe high-quality of your service, and your programs that meet the students’ needs all explain your success. Congratulations on winning the Consumer Choice Award-Best English Language School in Canada and Top Choice Award-Top Academic Pathway Program for three and seven consecutive years, respectively.”
