Start now! Study 50% at home, 50% in Canada
The Canadian government has announced several policy changes to support studying online from abroad until April 30th, 2021, as long as 50% of the program of study is eventually completed in Canada. That means international students can now start ILAC virtual English classes in their home country and complete their studies at a later date in Canada.
The ILAC 50/50 initiative allows international students to study up to 50% online in their home country and 50% in Canada.
Study permits are required and students can start their program before receiving their study permit. Options include:
- University Pathway, 50/50 – with access to 85+ higher education partners, giving students the opportunity to begin at home and finish in Canada before transitioning to a Canadian college or university
- ILAC International College, 50/50 – students can start in 2020 at home and prepare for their co-op work placement in Canada in 2021
- IELTS Preparation – ILAC is now an official IELTS Test Centre. Students can choose from full and part time courses for General IELTS (for immigration purposes) and for Academic IELTS preparation.
- ILAC 50/50 is also offered for any English program including IELTS
Students who have submitted a complete application will receive priority processing and will be able to travel to Canada after travel restrictions are lifted. IRCC will continue to closely monitor the situation to decide if and when further changes are needed.
Payment Plan
ILACs recommends that any student who chooses a 50/50 study option pay in two installments: one to start the program now, and the second once their visa and flight tickets are confirmed, prior to starting the 2nd part of their program in Canada.
International students in Canada who moved to online classes are allowed to continue working on- or off-campus, if their study permit allows.
