English Courses for Adults Resort Focused Internship Program

 

Description

Part 1: English Course Component (30/38 in-class English lessons per week)

Students begin studies in General English at the ILAC campus in Toronto or Vancouver. Students are assigned a principal class based on their tested English level. In addition, students will receive focused English for Hospitality language instruction during the final 4 weeks of the in-class component. Topics may include workplace communication, oral presentations, interview skills, and Canadian hospitality issues.

Part 2: Internship Component

Students will leave their ILAC campus in order to begin their Resort Focus internship. Placements are arranged in the hospitality industry for the purposes of applying the language learned in class. The work placement duration will not exceed 50% of the entire program duration.

Part 3: Supervised Research Project Component (2 weeks)

After the practical component is complete, students will return to ILAC campus in Toronto or Vancouver. In the final component of the program, students will research and complete a final report of 1,000 to 2,000 words related to their internship placement experience. An ILAC research advisor will provide support and assistance to the student. Students will also conduct an oral presentation of their report in English to earn the final certificate.

Requirements

  • • Students must attend a minimum of 80% of the in-class component and demonstrate professionalism in the on-site practical component. Meet English requirement; Advanced+ (level 12 of 17)

Cost

  • $1,200 CAD one-time placement fee

Locations

  • The Rocky Mountains or Whistler

Work Placement Duration

  • Minimum 20 weeks up to 50% of the entire program duration.

Placement Opportunities

  • Front of house, Back of house, Guest Services, Store and Sales Assistant, Café Assistant, Dishwasher and Restaurant Server, Housekeeping

Work Placement Start Dates

  • Summer: from May 2 to June 20, 2011. Application deadline: March 14, 2011
  • Winter: from November 14 to December 12, 2011. Application deadline: August 1, 2011

  • 19-30 years old

Application & Pre-Evaluation Process

  1. Please take our Online English Level Test to determine your English level.
  2. Send an e-mail to internship@ilac.com, including the following information:
    • Must type in Subject of an email: RESORT
    • Please attach your resume in English
    • Your intended start date
    • Your choice of location
  3. Our Internship Director
    • Will send you the internship application, the required length of your study period and the start date of your work placement
    • May conduct a telephone interview before you arrive

 Notes

All internships are based on reaching the required English level, having the necessary education and experience, having the right attitude and flexibility; the longer the Internship, the greater the options.

Under HRSDC Confirmation Exemption C-30, the student is exempt from HRSDC foreign worker validation.
